CANADA CANCELLATIONS
we are so so so bummed to have to do this, but as of now we will not be making it to any of our remaining candadian shows (through toronto 9/22)...we will pick the tour back up 9/23 in chicago.
as ya'll may know, we ran into a little trouble attempting to cross the border into new brunswick on friday. this is a smaller border crossing, and they evidently have very little experience dealing with bands crossing to play shows (i.e. they held japandroids at the border for 2.5 hrs, who are FROM CANADA). although we had all of the proper paperwork that we needed to cross and play the shows, border patrol was convinced that the venues we were playing were not tax exempt, therefore requiring us to obtain work permits (which can cost a lot and take a week to process even in the most urgent cases). although we were in the right and spent the whole time on the phone with multiple people trying to work it out, it's ultimately up to border patrol whether we get in or not, and these guys were not having it. we figured we'd sleep on it and try to obtain more evidence of our exemption, hope for a shift change, and try again saturday. when we tried again, it was even worse. they ripped our van apart, threatened to arrest me for my anti-anxiety medication, and even tested colin's allergy medication (?). when we finally made it inside after that, they basically told us the same thing and informed us that if we tried to cross again without the proper paperwork that we could be flagged and never be able to enter canada again.
long story short, we are going to have to bow out of our remaining canadian dates w/ japandroids, because the risk of us trying to enter again and getting turned away and banned for life is too great. even though we are in the right, i don't want to get banned for life from entering canada because some asshole thinks that he can interpret the law in his own way. we are really sorry to have to do this and hope you guys understand, we are especially bummed because this tour has been excellent so far and this puts a huge damper on it. we are going to do our best to make these dates up at some point in the future.
